Good afternoon Huard Huddle Families!

tumblr_lsdcvkTmX21qbm990o1_500.png

I hope you are enjoying this BOOOOO-tiful day! I have been at the soccer field since 7:30 this morning so I apologize again for this getting to you late in the day. I think there will be afternoon posts at least until soccer, football and flag football are over! Please be patient with me!

Reminders:
  • Box tops! Send in your box tops! It helps us earn money for our classroom! The class with the most box tops wins a pizza party. If you know of any businesses that could collect for you that would be great!

  • Thursday Oct. 8 Progress reports go out! Please sign them and send them back.

  • Thursday Oct 8: We have a special visit from the Manchester Police Department! Their program COPS and KIDS will be coming to Weston. We will have the chance to see a police car, the SWAT truck, motorcycles, 4 wheelers, Police segways and event the HORSES!

  • I sent home Conference reminders of the date and time of your appointment. These are 15 min. conferences and my first day is booked so it will be very important for everyone to arrive on time. If you are very late we may need to reschedule.

  • Be sure your child is reading from the book bag each night and coloring in a pumpkin on their new October chart. It's also very important for you to be reading to your son/daughter! It's a time I look forward to each night with my own boys! I still read to my 5th grader! I will be sending home Septembers chart with a little bookmark for all their wonderful reading.
THANK YOU to everyone who donated some items to our room. We are thankful for all the play dough, wipes, plant, clothes pins, and cotton balls

Reading: This week we will learn that we can ALL READ! I will be showing the children picture wordless books from our library and we will learn how to read these books. They will also be working on noticing information in illustrations, learning to turn and talk during Readers Workshop and buddy reading!

Sight Word Reader: What Is It?
Sight Words: is, it

Writing: The boys and girls used their sketch books for the first time this week. They did really well using illustrations and telling their story.

Lesson 7: Using Writing Notebooks: Left to Right/ Return Sweep
Lesson 8: Turn and Talk
Lesson 9: Accessing and Returning Writing Materials
Lesson 10: Making Writing Resources; Charts/Word Lists/ Poster

Math: We will continue with our study of numbers. Each day I am introducing a number. We are learning how to show that number, write that number, tell what comes before and after that number as well as what it looks like on a dice. We are also learning how to draw objects to represent that number. The song below is a great tool that we have been using to help us learn how to PROPERLY form the numbers. I also introduced our daily MOUNTAIN MATH program. The students used white boards and dry erase markers so they were actively engaged in the program. It went well and I am anxious to see how it goes as we add more components to it.

Congratulation to Corinne for being the first student in the Huard Huddle to earn a Weston Spirit Award! We are so proud of you Corinne!
